After a nearly year-long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Kalamazoo is relaunching Inventory Kalamazoo, a project to document Kalamazoo's historic buildings.
Inventory Kalamazoo is a reconnaissance level historic resource survey that photographs and documents the existing condition of structures made by people (houses, schools, stores, gas stations, parks). Every resource of any age within the City will be documented from the public right of way.
To help with the survey, the City is inviting volunteers to survey the structures in their neighborhood or on their block. Volunteers will use a smart phone or tablet when surveying buildings on their street or in their neighborhoods and can complete the survey at their convenience. Surveyors will be asked to verify the address, record the condition of the trees and sidewalk, and take at least three photos of the building.
The group is in need of volunteers to hang tags on the doors of each Westwood City resident. The hang tags begin the survey and inventory of the neighborhood. STEP I
We will be gathering data and ideas of what residents want Westwood to look like. The great things about Westwood and things we'd like to see.
We plan to use the same process for gathering data from the township residents as well. You can be a part of it all!
