We had a pretty good cross section of the community for our Meet Us In The Park Day at Frays Park
People were given green dots to place in the topic boxes that they felt were the most important to them. One can see the ones most selected by the residents.
Neighborhood watch & cooperation mentioned the most along with traffic and speeding issues
Many expressed concern that The City and Oshtemo Township need to work harder to reduce the accidents at West Main & Drake.
Pedestrian crosswalks seem to be needed at King-Westwood Elementary School, also (hot topic even getting one, at this time).
Heard loud and clear that the City, Kalamazoo Township and Oshtemo Township need to work on a plan for West Main street, Nichols and Drake roads (another hot topic).
More thoughts were expressed concerning a parking lot at Frays Park as well as possible community gardens. .
After a nearly year-long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Kalamazoo is relaunching Inventory Kalamazoo, a project to document Kalamazoo's historic buildings.
Inventory Kalamazoo is a reconnaissance level historic resource survey that photographs and documents the existing condition of structures made by people (houses, schools, stores, gas stations, parks). Every resource of any age within the City will be documented from the public right of way.
To help with the survey, the City is inviting volunteers to survey the structures in their neighborhood or on their block. Volunteers will use a smart phone or tablet when surveying buildings on their street or in their neighborhoods and can complete the survey at their convenience. Surveyors will be asked to verify the address, record the condition of the trees and sidewalk, and take at least three photos of the building.
The group is in need of volunteers to hang tags on the doors of each Westwood City resident. The hang tags begin the survey and inventory of the neighborhood. STEP I
We will be gathering data and ideas of what residents want Westwood to look like. The great things about Westwood and things we'd like to see.
We plan to use the same process for gathering data from the township residents as well. You can be a part of it all!
